Sophia Holston is a Gulf Breeze native with roots so deep she shared many of the same teachers as her father. From an early age, her parents helped foster and nurture her love of the arts through dance lessons and an exposure to music. Initially starting with tap and ballet at a young age, her interests evolved from dance to music and musical theatre. At the age of nine, Sophia was cast as Peter Pan in a local children’s theatre and never looked back. She continued performing in shows at The Pensacola Little Theatre and Pensacola State College.
A multi-talented, multi-instrument musician, Sophia is proficient on the piano, guitar, banjo, and ukulele. Her love of singing never ventures far, and neither can you from where she may be singing next! There are many Sophia sightings as she sings in various venues on the beach or downtown, as well as with the GBUMC worship team when the Gulf Coast is lucky to have her home.
In middle school, Sophia’s voice teacher suggested she make the switch to opera. At age sixteen, she had not only performed at Carnegie Hall once, but twice as a soloist for national honors choirs, mixed men and women’s voices. Continuing her musical theatre journey, Sophia participated with the drama troupe and won several awards for her roles in their one act performances, including all-star cast at both the district and state level. At seventeen, Sophia spent two months abroad in Florence, Italy with the Bel Canto Opera Institute. Equipped with this life-making experience, she went on to study opera at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She recently transferred to Belmont University in Nashville to finish her Bachelor’s degree.
